Minchinhampton NYD 2021 SAW

This is a special format Start Anywhere course designed originally to allow a well distributed but organised event. In the end Covid put paid to that, but the format remains, and the course is available to run any time. Start Anywhere means exactly that; you can start at any control, as long as you also finish at the same control. The marked Start/Finish just becomes another control, worth the same points as all the others, though of course you can also start and finish at it. You do not have to visit it if starting and finishing elsewhere.

Unlike our normal score courses, where controls have differing points values, all controls on this course are worth 20 points, while the penalty for over-running is the standard 10 points per minute or part minute late.

The course covers all of Rodborough Common, and the more Northerly parts of Minchinhampton Common, thus avoiding most of the golf course. Nevertheless you will need to keep an eye out for golfers towards the more Southerly end of our course. Both Commons are very largely fast, open terrain, with many small contour and vegetation features, ideal for GPS orienteering. There are many road crossings on the course, so take particular care when crossing.

Parking is in any of the 10 car parks marked by a red rectangle on the course map, or indeed anywhere else on the area where it is permitted to park. The car park shown on the map on the right is simply that nearest the designated Start/Finish. You can choose any one to use, depending on your route plan.
