New maprun Activities

Published by Pat Macleod on

We are pleased to announce the introduction of two new maprun course variants – maptrail and mapride.

Maptrail is for runners looking for a training run on a set course. The course is marked on the map, with checkpoints at fixed distance markers, and the maprun app shows the runner location as well as the course, as an aid to navigation. The course is not waymarked on the ground, so you still need to do a bit of navigating, but the runner location feature will help you stay on track, or will show you when you diverge from it.

There is a single maptrail course at present, a 5 mile circuit starting and finishing near Speech House, in the Forest of Dean, and we will be adding new ones through the Spring and Summer. You can find more information on the Maptrail page.

Mapride is for Mountain Bike orienteers. It works the same as the foot orienteering version, but the maps show permissible and non-permissible bike trails. Once again there is a single prototype course, a 90 minute score course starting and finishing at the Cannop Cycle Centre, also in the Forest of Dean See the Mapride page for more details.
