The 2021 Maprun Christmas Challenge
Our MapRun Christmas Challenge returns for a third year! As ever, we’re trying to get as many people running our MapRun courses as possible over the Christmas period, by providing a sweet incentive. Last year a whopping 59 people took part, with winner Si Read completing a massive 17.5 runs, and 13 people getting 10 or more. So this year, like the economy, inflation is increasing, and the target is what last year’s runners set – 10 runs.
How does it work?
- The aim: Run at least 10 of our MapRun courses over the Christmas period from Thursday 16 Dec to Wednesday 5 Jan,
- The prize: Chocolate – you can pick it up at one of our MapRun events in the new year. Bigger chocolate prizes will be available for those who run the most courses!
Everyone’s eligible, whether you’re a seasoned MapRunner or new to the game.
Courses
We have Courses around Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, with some just across the border into Worcestershire and Wales. (NB: check COVID rules before you travel).
Most of our courses have a standard format: you have one hour to collect as many points as possible by visiting up to 30 checkpoints.
We have other variants too: from MapRides designed for bikes, to super-short Micro-Orienteering courses (as these are so short, last year they were half a run each; this year, inflation again, you have to do 4 in one session to get a ‘run’
All courses, regular or variant, towards your total. We’ll allow mapruns outside our patch provided they are a reasonable effort to complete. The recently completed Autumn series will be moved shortly into their respective area folders, but until we have done that, if you cant find a particular course in its local folder, look for the course in UK/Gloucestershire/Current Series folder.
We’ll keep an eye on progress, and if you have any problems, drop us a line at maprun@ngoc.org.uk
Current leaderboard
The leaderboard will appear in due course, once you have had time to score a few runs.
