Lydney 2020

The Lydney 2020 course, unlike the earlier 2018 course, starts and finishes at the top of town, on Highfield Hill on the way out of town towards Gloucester, so you have a bit of a climb to get back at the end of your run. Although starting on the edge of the area, there are several route options away from the start, and again unlike the 2018 event, no one at the 2020 launch run managed to get all controls, though there were some runners close to cracking the course. Maybe in daylight....?

The course takes in the new housing developments around the Start/Finish, so you can expect the area to evolve, although the map probably wont. It should still be possible to run the course, however - the new housing will just be extra, but unmapped. It also visits a bit of woodland over on the Primrose Hill side of town, and drops down into the centre.

Parking is currently in a few bays by the entrance to the car wash next to RMA Car Sales, or in the layby opposite this entrance on the main road. However, since the course was planned it appears that the old filling station at this point, empty for many years, is now going to be turned into a convenience store, sometime during 2021. If that happens it may be that the only parking available, at least during the building work, will be in the layby on the main road. Alternatively, you can probably park in one of the new residential roads either side of the RMA/Car wash/Store complex. Note that if you park in the Car Wash entrance you are virtually on top of the Start/Finish, so need to be ready to start as soon as you tap Go to Start in the app.

Start and Finish are at the entrance to the car wash. The Start is right by the main road, the Finish a little further in, but possibly not far enough to avoid getting a premature Finish beep if you run past that point on the main road during your course. So best not to do that, or cross to the far side of the main road, obviously looking out for traffic when doing so!
