Tidenham 2020

The Tidenham course is wholly green field/forest, with plenty of path running but no urban or village terrain. The map is a non-standard maprun map, being a simplified OCAD map, rather than a standard Open Orienteering Map. The area consists of 2 nature Reserves, The Park, and Poors allotment, plus two woodland areas - Parsons Allotment and East Wood, with some fields connecting these up. The paths through the fields are rigts of way, public or permissive, and you must keep to these when crossing the fields.

There may be livestock both in the fields and the reserves, so watch out for it and give it room where necessary; you can skirt round animals on the rights of way, but should not regard the fields as fully accessible open country.

Depending on the time of year going in some of the open areas can be quite challenging, due to gorse, heather, branbles and bracken, but controls will invariably be accessible with a little dodging and weaving around the thicker stuff.

The course crosses the moderately busy B4228, which is marked as out of bounds except at two crossing points, one by the car park, and the other towards the bottom of the map by Tidenham Chase church. Take care crossing the road, particularly at the lower end, where visibility is restricted.

Parking is in Tidenham Chase car park, on the B4228, NP16 7JR

The Start and Finish are both in the car park but are separated to avoid false finishes when using the crossing point over the B4228. The Start is by the barrier to the main footpath towards Devil's Pulpit, near the car park entrance. Once started, you can cross the road via the start without a problem. The Finish is at the far end of the car park, in the rough ground beyond the far left corner of the car park. You need to make sure you run to the far end of the car park to record a finish beep.
